Position changes, penalties and party after four hours at Spa
Different pit stop strategies from the various teams saw several cars taking turns in the lead. Next to the #55 Kaspersky Motorsport Ferrari and the #63 GRT Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini, other cars leading the race included the #1 Audi Sport Team WRT Audi and the two Bentley Team M-Sport Bentleys (#7 and #8), but once they simultaneously also came into the pits at the end of lap 75, the Ferrari and the Lamborghini were back into first and second place again, with the #1 Audi Sport Team WRT Audi next up and the #84 Mercedes-AMG Team HTP Motorsport Mercedes in fourth. That is the situation after four hours, with the Music Festival in the Fan Zone already going on in full swing.
The second ‘full course yellow’ of the race, followed by a safety car intervention came on lap 54 due to a crash by Jamie Green with the #17 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT Audi at the exit of Bruxelles. After four laps of neutralisation, racing resumed. On lap 83, the #5 Audi Sport Team WRT Audi was pushed into the pit box for repair.
The #117 KÜS Team75 Bernhard Porsche, considered by many as a pre-race favourite, dropped back trough the ranks following a three minutes’ time penalty for an unsafe pit entry. Race control also continued its clampdown on track limit infringements with numerous drive-through penalties imposed.
The #97 Oman Racing Team with TF Sport Aston Martin holds on to its Pro-Am Cup class lead, but the two Black Falcon Mercedes (#16 and #18) are following closely and the #89 AKKA ASP Mercedes isn’t far off either.
In the AM class, the #888 Kessel Racing Ferrari remains in the lead in spite of a drive-through penalty for track limit infringements, with the #26 Saintéloc Racing Audi in second and the #488 Rinaldi Racing Ferrari in third. In the Groupe National, the #991 Speedlover Porsche still ranks ahead of the #56 RMS Porsche.
